STEFANO MARZI CELLO 2017 MOD.DOMENICO MONTAGNANA FIRENZE, ITALY
From a young age, Marzi had shown an interest in woodworking and then began to work in a workshop of cabinetmakers and restorers. Inspired by a strong passion for music, Marzi began to develop an interest in crafting the first violins, following the advice of various master violin makers that he met. Upon meeting with the Vettori Family of Florence, known violin makers in the world for three generations, Marzi was inspired, coming up with a stimulating comparison to improve the construction technique, allowing him to learn about the various models and secret formulas of the Bisiach family varnish.
Today Marzi makes violins, violas and cellos on various Montagnana, Stradivari, Guarneri, Guadagnini and Storioni models. The wood he uses is Balkan maple and local maple for the bottom. For the soundboard, spruce is personally chosen from Paneveggio forest, located in Fiemme valley.
